Yaeko HodakaPartner

After working as a partner at Japanese and U.S. law firms including Baker McKenzie, Yaeko Hodaka became a partner at Isshiki & Partners in April 2023.
Yaeko is involved in all aspects of corporate legal affairs, including M&A, litigation, arbitration and other dispute matters. In addition to her work on corporate and M&A matters, she has represented and counseled clients in numerous litigation matters, particularly arising out of or related to M&A transactions and corporate alliances. At Baker McKenzie, Yaeko served as a steering committee member of the firm’s global manufacturing group as well as chair of the Asia-Pacific manufacturing group, where she advised, among others, the automotive industry on legal issues related to C.A.S.E. and future of mobility including on such issues as the legal challenges faced by manufacturing companies in converting to service-based business and in digitizing their industry.

Led a series of 8 seminars at JAFTAS (Japan Automotive FTA System) in 2022 and 2023 on the latest trends in global customs audits covering Vietnam, Malaysia, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, the U.S. and the EU.
Gave a lecture on “Tariff Risks Faced by Japanese Companies Abroad and the Impact on Management” at the EPA Digital Innovation Forum, a project of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

Affiliations

Conducted internal investigations for and provided advice to an automotive parts manufacturer relating to quality reporting irregularities.

Advised Japanese, U.S., and European automobile manufacturers and auto parts suppliers on various regulations they need to meet in developing and implementing automated driving technology as well as providing car sharing services, based on cross-sectional surveys in dozens of countries around the world.

Advised automobile manufacturers on penalties for improper use of FTAs and how to deal with authorities in importing countries.
